DEGREE COLLEGE

Mahatma Gandhi College, Guntur came in to existence in 1992 as an affiliated college of Nagarjuna University. The Degree Courses Campus is located on NGO Colony road, Near Pattabhipuram Railway Gate, Guntur.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The instructional methodology consists of regular teaching hours by faculty, seminars, paper presentations, group discussions, study hours, tutorials, etc. Additional study hours are also provided to needy and academically backward students. Students are encouraged to participate in seminars which are held regularly. The students are expected to attend all the unit tests and other examinations. Students who secure less percentage of marks are taken personal care for better performance.

 

ATTENDANCE & BEHAVIOUR

Students who do not have minimum attendance as per the requirements of university will not be allowed to appear for the university examinations. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a disciplined manner and maintain the image and dignity of the college. Students who misbehave will be removed from the college. 

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

National merit scholarships, Hindi scholarships, EBC scholarships, SC/ST scholarships are available to the students on the basis of their parents income and rules of Government. In addition to these scholarships granted by Government, a few scholarships are also granted by the college to meritorious and poor students. For details of such scholarships, the students may approach office personnel.

TRANSPORT FACILITY

College buses are provided for the transportion of students from all parts of the city on payment. 

PROFICIENCY PRIZES AND AWARDS

As a token of appreciation and a motivation tool, proficiency prizes are given away to the students who secure highest marks in individual subjects, group totals as well as year totals.

TEACHER – PARENT MEETS

The college organises Teacher-Parents Meets twice in a year of discussing the progress of the students. Parents are requested to attend these meets and co-operate the college in providing better quality education to the students. 

LIBRARY

“A library is a monument to the peoples desire to learn”. Both degree as well as PG Courses libraries are well stocked. The Degree Courses library is provided in 1200 sq. ft. hall with good collection of text books, reference books, periodicals etc. The library has got a cumulative total of 10000 books with a number of periodicals.

AUDIO VISUAL CENTRE

To utilize the fruits of advancements in information/communication technology for effective learning by students, the college has provided an audio visual centre. This centre has got DVDs pertaining to the subjects of students study, spoken English, personality development programmes. The facility supplements the conventional method of teaching. 

 

LABORATORIES

Spacious computer laboratories are provided to the students of MCA and M.Sc (Computer Science) students. A separate computer lab is provided for the students of MBA. All the laboratories have got state-of-art-equipment for equipment for conducting practicals to the students as per the norms/rules of the University. 

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Mahatma Gandhi College is the only college in Nagarjuna University area figured in the surveys conducted by Business India on India’s Best B-Schools published in the Oct 14 to 27, 2002 issue. The MBA Programme offered by our college secured 7th place in entire state of Andhra Pradesh as regards INFRASTUCTURE and 12th place as regards ADMISSIONS and PLACEMENTS in the survey conducted by ALL INDIA MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (AIMA) on the BEST B-SCHOOLS: INDIA’S MOSTCOMPREHENSIVE RATING of Business Schools published in the journal Indian Management of January 2003 issue.

INDUSTRY INTERFACE

Professional and technical courses such as MBA, MCA, M.Sc. (CS). Require effective interface with the industry. The college has always stood ahead in interacting with the industry. A number of practicing executives, industrialists, consultants, software and hardware professionals have visited the college and shared their knowledge with our students. Our college has been closely associated with the local Indian Chamber of Commerce, CSI chapter, and other associations. Our college has taken load for the formation of Guntur Management Association. Mahatma Gandhi College is also an institutional member of Hyderabad Management Association. 

SEMINARS

The college organized an International conference on ‘4ES of HRM on during 2010-11 on 29-31st 2010.

PUBLICATIONS

Mahatma Gandhi College is one of the very few colleges in the state which has taken up the publication of different types of publications to bring out the latent talent and written communicative skills from its teachers and students. The Department of Business Studies of the college is the first one in the state to publish a bi-annual professional journal, THE EXECUTIVE. The college also publishes. Quarterly information bulletin/news letter OUTREACH. 

STUDENTS MEETS

Mahatma Gandhi College is one of the very few colleges which conducts state level students meets every year. COMMERSOTSAV, a state level Commerce Students Meet and PRATHIBHA BHARATHI, another state level literary and cultural meet have become very popular meets in the state.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The college firmly believes in developing integrated personality of students from all directions. For achieving this, students are encouraged to join Redcross, Rotaract club, Green club, etc. Library, cultural and other activities are periodically conducted for the benefit of students.
